Acai Super Smoothie & Power Yoga Workout

The term “Superfood” gets thrown around a lot, but the acai berry is truly deserving of the label.  It has numerous health benefits that will be listed in the Food Key below, but there are a lot of products out there looking to capitalize on the hype surrounding acai berries.  Don’t get conned into thinking that acai is some kind of weight loss miracle.  Acai berries are good for your overall health, but if you want to burn fat, just keep coming back to The Smoothie Operator, and get your fitness on with any of the various workouts I share.  Now on to more important things…here’s the recipe!

Apple Watermelon Jolly Rancher Smoothie & Advanced Core Burning Yoga Flow

Hello peeps! Long time no see.  I hope all of your summers have been amazing.  Personally, I think the summer weather is gonna last through October (wishful thinking).  I know it’s been a while since I dropped some smoothie goodness on you, but today I come correct with an Apple Watermelon Jolly Rancher Smoothie inspired by one of my favorite childhood treats.  I wasn’t exactly sure how the watermelon and almond milk would mesh, but the results were outstanding.  I even got the thumbs up from my little Smoothie Operator Assistant.  This recipe is simple and delicious.  Enjoy!

Refreshing Watermelon Banana Strawberry Smoothie & Deep House Yoga Review

Today I decided to add watermelon to my smoothie arsenal of ingredients.  Watermelon is super refreshing and perfect for these warm, humid days that are upon us.  I mixed the melon some frozen bananas and strawberries plus some baby kale for some green lovin’.  I suggest having this smoothie before your morning workout as it will help reduce muscle soreness the next day.  Enjoy.

Deep House Yoga Review

New York City’s sickest nightclub is Verboten in Williamsburg, BK.  A few times a month, Verboten is also the dopest yoga studio you’ve ever seen.  Willkommen Deep House Yoga lets you bring your ohm to the dance floor.  I finally got the chance to take a class this week and it was as awesome as you’d expect.  Making the experience that much better was that one friend of mine was the instructor, while another actually provided the beats for the class.  The class was equal parts relaxing and challenging (WHOA), and the music was perfect for the setting.  The class is about an hour and is conveniently scheduled after work (7PM and 8:30 PM).  I highly recommend checking it out.

Cold Killer Smoothie & Yoga Twist Routine

Ugh, cold and flu season sucks!  Not only were this year’s flu shots completely worthless, but it has been a brutally cold February that has seen my entire household all get sick at once (GOOD TIMES!).  Since I didn’t want to keep popping Mucinex and DayQuil like Reese’s Pieces, I went looking for a smoothie recipe the cut the legs off my cold.  I found gold in an unlikely place…an MMA Radio Show.  The host of the show was giving props to his teammate’s father for hooking up with a recipe to help him get over  cold he couldn’t shake.  It was a juice recipe, but I made a smoothie out of it because that’s how I roll.  I would def recommend this receipt the next time you are sick.  It’s not the most delicious, but it does the job.  I felt like garbage before I tried this out.  I threw down a couple mason jars of “Cold Killer” and was well enough to dance in a Flashmob in NYC on Valentines Day.  That’s a whole other story, but for more details on this amazing event with a great cause, search the hashtag #DanceOutInLove.  See if you can spot me in the video!

Banana, Date & Broccoli Protein Smoothie and Quick Yoga Routine

GUESS WHO’S BACK!? Hey there everyone, sorry for the long gap in between posts. Being a new parent is a 24 hour/day job. Who knew, lol?  I’ve been more of the diaper operator for the last couple of months, but I have managed to get my smoothie on in between diaper changes and crying fits. You don’t hear about many smoothies with broccoli in them, and that’s a shame. Broccoli is super healthy and can be delicious when mixed withe right ingredients. I still don’t have much time to workout, so I keep my eyes out for great, quick routines to add to my rotation. The yoga practice below from Sean Vigue is excellent and moderately difficult, so you really maximize your ten minutes. Try the smoothie and the workout and let me know what you think.

Slim PB Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Smoothie plus Yoga For Weightlifters

Today’s smoothie once again features the Slim Powdered Peanut Butter Mrs. Smoothie Operator found for me on Vitacost.  I pretty much put this sh!+ on everything.  The powdered peanut butter takes one of my favorite oatmeal smoothies, apples & cinnamon, to the next level of deliciousness (without taking it to the next level of fatness).  Enjoy!

It’s been a while since I posted any workout videos, but I felt compelled to share this great yoga routine from Ali Kamenova.  I had been doing HIIT routines continuously all summer and my body had gotten pretty tight, not to mention fatigued.  I felt like a good yoga practice would help get me right and I couldn’t have asked for a better one than this Yoga for Bodybuilders/Weightlifters routine.  After all the pushups and burpees and jackknife crunches, this was just what  the doctor ordered.

Doga (doh- guh), Ashtanga Practice

This morning I had a very special partner for my yoga practice – my dog, Oppa.

Image

Today I went with a beginner Ashtanga Yoga class from Lesley Fightmaster.

I was reading up on the various types of yoga out there and Ashtanga sounded right up my alley based on my goals:

Ashtanga yoga metaphorically focuses on eight limbs. Considered a form of power yoga, Ashtanga is fast-paced and intense with lunges and push-ups.

  • Purpose: To help improve one’s spiritual self
  • Benefits: Relieves stress, improves coordination, and helps with weight loss
  • Good for: Fit people looking to maintain strength and stamina, and those who want to get in touch with their spiritual side

Dailycupofyoga.com has a great breakdown of 5 common styles of yoga which you can find here.

I found this practice pretty challenging since parts of me were a lot tighter than I realized.  I’ve decided to rock this practice out every other day until I can nail every pose just as Lesley does in the video.  Oppa is a natural and was breezing through the whole routine, taunting me the whole time.  I would have been upset, but how can you get mad at this face?
